The Political Implications
If Christians take voluntary charity seriously, and give the entirety of the first tithe to Jesus, then we can restore some lost economic freedoms without causing the poor to suffer. This was the message I intended to promote when I began this series, but research and my own experiences as a Christian caused this study to grow, and have some pretty far-reaching implications if accepted by a large number of Christians.
Modern democracy and the Reformation arose hand-in-hand. When Christians study the Law directly vs. deferring to priests, ideas of self-government become self-evident. The Puritans established direct democracy in New England. The Quakers in Pennsylvania shrank their government enough to be cited by Murray Rothbard as an example of successful anarchy.
Libertarians might do well to put aside their Ayn Rand books and study the lessons of The New Levites instead.
